The following information represents many of the Frequently Asked Questions about the Dominican Republic, often posed to us by our guests before they rent our villa. We hope these provide you with answers to your questions but you should always feel free to contact us for additional information.
A: Villa Cantamar is located on the northern coast of the island facing directly eastward. This positioning over the ocean allows the villa to enjoy full time westerly breezes (east-west trade winds), keeping the area cool and dry. Our average temperature is 82 degrees.

A: Because we are located on the north coast, it is best to fly into Puerto Plata (POP). The villa is about an hour from Puerto Plata.

A: One of the exclusive services we can provide is the VIP service at the airport (add’l fee applies). When you sign up for VIP arrival, you are met by a representative of the villa and escorted into a private waiting lounge at the airport. There you can enjoy some snacks, mixed drinks or cool, refreshing Presidente beer. Your luggage is collected for you and the passport officials will come to the lounge instead of you going to them. Relax, you are on vacation!

A: A valid passport is necessary to enter the Dominican Republic. It is also necessary to purchase a tourist card upon entry.

A: We recommend you use the local taxi services. They are more reliable and cost effective than any other method. The taxis hold about 8 adults and know the best places to go, how to get there and never have to worry about drinking and driving!

A: It is never a good idea to travel with a great deal of cash but you may want some for local purchases. Many of the local stores accept Visa/Mastercard but cash is always easier to use. We can help you exchange your currency for Dominican pesos if you desire.

A: Yes, we require a 10% gratuity for our staff. Your gratuity will be distributed to the staff using a formula everyone is comfrotable with to ensure no one is overlooked.

A: Once the villa rental dates have been guaranteed, which means we have received your initial deposit, we cannot provide a refund for a cancellation. However, we can apply your deposit to another date within one year.

A: Yes. All incoming calls are free of charge. For outgoing calls we offer calling cards in various denominations. Cellular telephones are also available for rental while you are in the villa.

A: Yes. The villa offers high speed satellite connectivity free of charge. If there is a problem with configuration, our professional technicians will be close by to help.

A: Electrical appliances run on 110v (60Hz), the U.S. standard.

A: Absolutely! We have become exceptionally proficient at everything from simple beach weddings to more extravagant island wedding affairs. All weddings must be organized in advance and require some legal paperwork, no exceptions. We require all weddings to use the services of the villa wedding planner to insure everything goes smoothly and to your satisfaction.
